Echolink –is it REAL radio?

In presenting Echolink and IRLP as technologies of amateur radio,as something which is a part of the advancement of  the hobby,it is useful to have a better understanding of what it actually is,and to also open the discussion as to why Radio Amateurs should use it.

Both Echolink and IRLP are systems that use voice over internet protocols  (VOIP). They were actually here with us in use at least for the last ten years and well before the onset of programs such as Skype and ovoo. It is important to appreciate that Echolink and IRLP are in essence, innovative advancements in  amateur radio. D-Star . . . →Read More:Echolink –is it REAL radio?

The Future of SARC

Steve M1ERS,  Chairman for Sheffield Amateur Radio Club, wants to hear suggestions from all members as to how they would like to see the club grow  in the Next Year and beyond. He asks,“What you would like to see happen as to the way things are at the moment”and adds,“My own suggestion for a really good change at our Radio Club is to have our own club rooms on our own bit of land. Since building my own shack at home,I have seen how easy it could be for us as a club to do the same on a larger scale with several rooms . . . →Read More:The Future of SARC

Wind genny is GO..!!

Thanks to the combined efforts of the folk who came up to the club this morning we were able to get the wind generator erected and running before 3pm this afternoon. It’s now connected to the battery bank, along with the solar panel,so my guess is that we should be able to get through the winter quite nicely.

I’d like to thank the following members  who came along:  Krystyna,Ken,Keith,Dave EQD,Andy GAV,Andrew HSA,Carol and Peter,

We are not sure just how much gear we will be able to run off this system but it’s still not up to running an electric kettle . . . →Read More:Wind genny is GO..!!
